Recipe as in performative : Exchange as in Open #therecipeexchange

The recipe Exchange at Spacex is getting more interesting. Some of it is at Spacex but it continues in Farringdon and other places. It could be seen as a way to represent what was going on anyway nowhere in particular.

second visit based my own recipe for going for a walk.

Coming up, the review group, a book about making things as connections, and a talk about open data in Manchester.

So far my photos and video have not included any people. I do realise there is more concern over image rights than over music for example. But still, given the nature of the show I hope there will be some talk on camera before the 9th July. If not at Spacex maybe in Farringdon or Exeter.

The reviews group will consider some fairly long text

Even though tablet computers have a fan base, the respect for text continues. Could this sort of dialog be done in clips for YouTube?

I'm on Phonic FM this Thursday - Wheelie Wild Show 10-12

Chris Norton is away this week so I will be doing the Phonic slot between 10 and 12. Fortunately JD will be there in support so there won't be too much silence while I work out how to start the music. He may also take over now and again. I expect to play some country soul and may slow down a lot. So some daytime disco could balance this out.

from capitolmusicgroup , sounds official.

Devon Soul is just a little bit country, there is more in there as well. This track will probably turn up in my second show, 9th June.

There will also be talk around the Recipe Exchange at Spacex and Farringdon. My own recipe is for a walk via bus to somewhere to eat/drink. Original recipe mentioned a pub but this can vary. There could be more documentation on how recipes change over time.

I have three Respect CDs. I may find another one at the Seale Hayne Record Fair. There is a Motown concert coming up at the Corn Exchange so I will also be looking out for Motown hit collections.

JD tells me that the equipment now hardly ever fails in streaming from YouTube.

My own stuff on YouTube has been a test of how a local channel may work. I will try to recap on this. It started with an attempt at a chat show during the Beer At The Castle event a couple of summers ago. Carl Munson turned up and invited me back to the New Exeter Radio Show. Same time each week but nearly everything changes.

#crossmedialive postponed to 2012 - source LinkedIn Ipex World

There is new info from Nick Craig Waller on the IPEX World group on LinkedIn.

He explains that the event has been moved into 2012 but will still be in London. The description is similar to what I would expect in the report in Print and Paper Monthly.

It is very disappointing that there will be such a delay. Comment can be linked to this event about the role of print in communication. The London college of communication was invited to the Digital Print World and Total Print Expo events so presumably will connect with Cross Media Live. They could make sense of the various words, "design" and "media" for example. Words like "print", "paper" ans "publishing" are still in there somehow.

I need to put a date on this event so it can feature in a timeline / story. Maybe the May editorial in Print and Paper Monthly. Maybe a conversation on the way back to London from digi:media in April.

The next digi:media is not till 2013 so the ideas could be part of the scope for drupa.

Meanwhile the IPEX World group on LinkedIn is working fine for me. You can ask a question and youdo get an answer. What more could a blog need?

Farringdon photos on Flickr , Spacex expanded phase one #therecipeexchange

I have tried out a bus trip to Farringdon. starts with the 52 bus out of Exeter. Actually I could just stay on the bus and arrive in Sidmouth fairly quickly. But my idea is to work out a walking route in time for the folk music in August. My recipe exchange contribution included the suggestion that East Devon is fairly flat as far as Budleigh. So far I think this is fair enough. I am going to explore Woodbury Salterton next and a route towards the river Otter. If the hills are too steep I will try further inland.

The White Horse is now a gastro destination, not sure if locals just drop by. The Otter beer is ok but I thought the sandwich pricing was such that I may try this another time. There is no bus stop that I could see so I went on to the Farm Shop where a pasty is reasonably priced and there is seating outside. Also a bus stop so the 52 will get you back to Exeter.

Two of the photos are from another visit to Spacex. One on travel might still relate. My next trip could feature companions. Can I do video clips of the conversations? We could visit the site of the science park via the new bridge. Will this bring much change to the countryside? Do most people just commute anyway? The notice board shows an awareness of what is happening over quite a wide locality. What about protection science? Is there a genuine danger around stray cats or is this just rhetoric?

Recipe Exchange prompts social media review recursion #Spacex #therecipeexchange @spacexgallery @Helen_Pritchard:

The Recipe Exchange exhibition at Spacex takes the form of sharing applied knowledge. Some events already happened in Farringdon. The website continues during the next few weeks and new recipes are also possible as hard copy posted at the gallery.  "recipes" can be for any useful activity. I have added one for catching a bus to a country walk and pub sandwich. It may be amended following tests.

At a talk on Saturday Helen Pritchard compared the Recipe Exchange format to the Wikipedia and open source software. Events may have some of the same spirit as a party for hackers and net artists. It is also possible that reviews will have some of the same qualities. There is now some comment on Facebook and a reviews page based on Tumblr.

I took some photos which are now on Flickr. I hope to do some video soon at various locations.

Most of the photos are of book covers. Permission to photograph people is more complicated. For a limited number of days the books are available at Spacex. But one obvious question is to ask how much they usually cost and is there a free version online? There is web access also and one estimate mentioned on Saturday was £50 for title only available in hardback. Maybe I misremembered this already.

there is some free text here, to be compared with the hard copy at Spacex some time later

Making is Connecting by David Gauntlett has a page with sample chapters and several links, including free stuff.

Italian design and EU funding through Framework. A few years old now but some of these ideas have been around for quite a long time.

I am interested in the Recipe Exchange as connected to quality systems and action learning. Documnet control is not always regarded as a fascinating subject but the content here is interesting enough to hold some attention. A recipe is similar to a works instruction, a document that exists at an early stage in a process. Later documents could include complaints about the resources or suggested changes in the instructions. For example I have suggested in my own recipe that the walk to the coast from Farringdon via the river Otter is pretty much flat. No steep hills to worry about. This may be modified when tested.

Northprint 40% up but Southprint is now cross media #crossmedialive

Printweek reports that there is a 40% increase in visiters to Northprint this year.

But I cannot yet find a mention for Cross Media Live as reported in Print and Paper Monthly. If there is a link please let me know.

As far as I know there is no Southprint or Total Print Expo. Next week I will do more of a trawl on past links. Is London very different to Harrogate? Reports soon on levels of interest in brands and communication choices.

trust, Guardian Talk, future Manchester #guardiantalk

Word of mouth and trust is important and many people use this as a filter.

There is some info turning up on Future Everything in Manchester. I don't think there was much mention of Guardian Talk and what happened. I think this has to be spoken about before any other communication with the Guardian is going to work all that well.

Otherwise it is just another example of a cover up.
