finding links, DJ science #diana1love

Found this

interesting not only for science but for what is said about YouTube.

Maybe it matters not if there is a Motown promotion department working with radio.

I still think the Joss Stone version is an album track.

A remix could be a dance hit, maybe for Diana Ross.

Maybe design science could relate?

Exeter High Street, Sony box for Google TV available now #EX1to4 #CrossMedia12

Earlier today I posted about Google TV and a topic on the LinkedIn page for Cross Media Live.

This afternoon I checked out the Sony Centre on Exeter High Street and the box has definitely arrived. This is not a rumor from the Consumer Electronics Show. This is actual observation. It seems to be working ok and is designed to fit any TV, not just a Sony. The box uses Google software with Flash and the apps come from Google Play. So Google should try to keep them up to date. I guess YouTube will be well supported. I liked the keyboard on the back of the remote.

Also in Exeter there are Samsung smart TVs at Richer Sounds and specialists for Panasonic and Bang & Olufsen. Lots of other shops as well. Virgin Media have a shop that shows their YouTube app and web browsing. But this Sony kit is interesting as a more direct link to Google. Apple shop also has a box but now rarely displayed.

I definitely think that local media could be possible through a tag such as "EX1to4" or any other one depending on what local means.

a few problems identified here, maybe UK systems are less complicated. Yes, phoning engineers in Japan is unusual.

news and product info

Google TV, Apple TV, ITV still ITV in UK anyway, #EX1to4 #CrossMedia12

Cross Media Live have a topic about Google TV on LinkedIn. I think this should get more attention. Maybe Adobe will add something.

By the way I think the future for local media could be to use global media but with local tags. #EX1to4 for example, clearly a UK thing.

I will check this later in Exeter High Street. If the report is true there could be a Sony device available.

Meanwhile

This video is probably a fake. There is a box from Apple that works with existing kit. But if there is a plan to release a tv anytime soon then the share price is not reflecting this.

But wait, there's more. What if there could be massive losses on the launch of Apple into a low margin market? They could sell 200 million units this year at a loss. And then there is the cost of buying ITV and rebranding as something else. The share price could reflect that there are plans for Apple TV but they are not expected to work out. We just don't know. This is probably the most sensible blog post about Apple this week.

What to learn from magazines? #CrossMedia2012

On the LinkedIn group for Cross Media Live I have been commenting on the possibility that the Guardian will move to weekly publication or cease print publication. It has been pointed out that print machinery might not be viable for use once a week, but I don't think this will stop the trends.

Several publishers will be involved in the talks. Ahead of this I am looking on blogs etc to find out what they are doing. Reading the Guardian you just get a fairly short claim that they have the largest combined web and print quality audience in the UK. But which market are they in? Is it a global online market? What to think about UK print?

Bits I found today-

very interesting stuff based on definite event, B2B mag moves online. Chris Rand writes that "People love print magazines, but not enough to pay for them, especially when they're full of two-week-old news."

On Haymarket what I found was my own blog from a while ago, draft story for OhmyNews. Could Printweek move online? Why not?

Dennis has tried things out for a while but I can still get my hard copy of PC Pro. Long may it continue btw.

Future is the current winner at an awards ceremony

In the most coveted awards of the digital publishing industry, Future was named Best Digital Publisher – Consumer against stiff competition including Mirror Online, Hearst Magazines and Guardian News & Media.
The judging panel said: “From its innovative approach to new launches, significant organic growth to reaching the tipping point where digital revenues offset those from print – Future is the deserving winner!”

The sunshine has started and it is time to relax. But ahead of Cross Media Live I will be looking for some info on what publishers are actually doing. And buying the Guardian on a Monday without expecting very much info about the Guardian itself.

Adobe in vague time slots, technology draft take 1

This is a first attempt to outline a history of Adobe such that better sense can be made of the Cross Media Live event at the beginning of September. Previously I have speculated about future archaeologists finding two layers of mud, one with traces of Postscript and PDF, the other with mentions of Flash. But now things seem to have moved on again, though I don't understand how.

Recently I asked a question about PDF on the Cross Media Live LinkedIn page. My impression is that Adobe are no longer much interested in PDF. The release of Acrobat is delayed from Creative Suite when previously it might have been out before as some features were required and they had to be established. In reply I have been toild there will be a release in October and there has been no comment that this is not so.

Adobe will sponsor some of the talks. I don't know if there will be a stand. They appear not to have been at drupa, can't think of anything that was announced there.

I will try to put dates on this later but let's start with Adobe.PDF to include Postscript. This started when Xerox was not very interested and continues now but without much investment or promotion. Macromedia is not often mentioned but is the source of most of the web ideas. I think the cloud continues this. Call it Adobe (FLSH).

This clip explains marketing or whatever is happening now. Omniture bought in the last couple of years. Call it Adobe Analytics.

There is some connection from what Adobe thinks is happening with technology and what later happens with media. The timing is not often as expected. But I think they are concentrating on Adobe Analytics. If so it could be better explained. Postscripot and PDF are open standards. Is there an open source analytics which Adobe can add to?

And if PDF is not worth developing any further then the next stage would be for Acrobat prices to drop. Both Photoshop and Premiere have an Elements version with quite a lot of functionality.  .

Tina Brown still has a point re Murdoch, Princess Diana but not a UK story so far

The news on criminal charges in the UK is so far different to what appeared possible a while ago that I have looked again for links to the story by Tina Brown.

What is strange is not the story itself but the way that UK media have not reported it. Also recently there has been news about the Mirror and Express

It may be that news about UK news will be coming mostly from outside the UK.

#diana1love I seem to be in my own fantasy world but it is ok so far

Possibly I have just gone off into a belief that I am a presenter on a radio show when actually there is no audience except the friends in the studio.

Story so far. On Phonic FM Wild Show I have gradually discovered more about avoiding gaps of silence and get help on a complete show or half an hour sometimes so Chris can start a bit later. Last week and this the storyteller has a festival booking so I have taken over that as well. The theme is the new Joss Stone Soul Sessions CD. We have been playing tracks from YouTube including the originals where they could be found.

Main conclusion so far is that for dance music the Teardrops is going back in time so One Love In My Lifetime is possibly stronger except that Diana Ross still has the best version, especially in a remix by BabyBollox. So this could be a small hit till Warner UK sort something out, if they do.

I thought this was the sort of thing radio shows are supposed to do. But so far there is no interest at all. No retweets, nobody else using #diana1love . Maybe Diana Ross has been forgotten except in Devon UK. I shall ask in the studio again this Thursday.

I had thought that #diana1love would be about persuading Motown to do some promotion. But maybe there is no Motown, just various distribution deals for stuff  the audience has to discover. Maybe there just needs to be more intereswt in the remix on YouTube. I don't even know if Motown paid for this.

So this tweet / blogpost is just about me. Obviously I am listening to Joss Stone, and also Diana Ross.

( Next week Al Green, Isaac Hayes  to be continured )

I think I will retweet myself from the weekend. Maybe there is a Motown, but mostly weekdays 9 -5 .

Stills test Pyrates! at Sorry Head Exeter

I did some video at the Sorry Head on Friday. The new Pyrates are amazing. Now based in Eindhoven with a full drum kit. Mostly Captain Gallows is doing the same songs. The CD is not really indicative of the live performance. They can tend towards a guitar band depending on the audience. Apparently they have supported some metal bands and survived ok.

I did the first set on the Pyrates own camera but I'm not sure what happened to it. I met someone who claimed they would record the second set but then I'm not sure I saw him again. So I hope the Pyrates have the camera now.

These stills and the second set on Kodak Zi8. Lighting adjusted but to do similar for video will take time.

I expect there is a lot of other video and live sound recording in various places. So link info welcome. I am thinking about a movie called Next Year in Eindhoven. This is about a band faking documentary evidence that they were in Sidmouth the previous summer. This movie is called Last Year in Sidmouth. Fortunately the Sorry Head is very similar to the basement of the George Hotel on the Sidmouth Esplanade. So some of the editing will be quite easy.
