Diana Ross timewarp, Wikipedia puts me right #diana1love

Still not much interest in #diana1love on Twitter. I still think Diana Ross version of One Love in My Lifetime could be a hit.

But there is no Motown promotion apparently. Can't find anyone who answers.

I saw an audience with Diana Ross on UK TV quite recently. But checking Tivo it turns out to be ITV3 and the Wikipedia informs me the original was 1999. So I may be a decade out or so.

80s fans please note 1992 is not really the 90s, it is late 80s in some cases.

House of Lords more or less sensible on UK broadband #EX1to4

I may have been half asleep when I heard the Today prog this morning. But I thought I heard Evan Davis advocating the low hanging fruit of amazing broadband in central London and not to worry about the countryside where there is not even a prospect of gas.

No mention of the proposal to change the use of spectrum for broadcast television. This may have come up later but I don't remember it. Thing is, this could change sound media quite a lot, as well as print tv and whatever else.

I have been trying to promote #EX1to4 as a search tag. Used with global media such as YouTube this could work quite well. Or any other search term based on a locality, real or imagined. Twinity islands are of interest for some people even the new ones trying to get round copyright on map data. I guess the House of Lords has an interest in the old counties, but postcodes seem a good place to start.

They do include some accurate info about UK broadband.

Like other technological advances, broadband has inspired devoted evangelists
and we received evidence from a number of them. To their disappointment,
when it comes to the most highly quoted broadband league tables, the UK does
not—on most indices—have a place on the podium. Take average connection
speed; according to the most recent Akamai ‘State of the Internet’ report, the
UK ranks 16th in Europe and 25th globally.3 Some who contributed evidence
to this inquiry have lamented that the UK is therefore “achieving speeds more
than three times slower than South Korea.”4 Moreover, in the UK, 14% are
receiving speeds of less than 2 megabits per second (Mbps),5 regarded by the
Government as the minimum speed which allows you to use the internet
reasonably effectively.

Let us see an end to the unconvincing claims that the UK will be best in the world for broadband by some mysterious date in the future. Accurate figures please of what is currently available and how it compares.

But the main news is around Para 141.

We recommend that the Government, Ofcom and the industry begin to
consider the desirability of the transfer of terrestrial broadcast content
from spectrum to the internet and the consequent switching off of
broadcast transmission over spectrum, and in particular what the
consequences of this might be and how we ought to begin to prepare.

The consequence would be fairly disruptive for the organisation of media. Local broadcasting could compete depending on what the audience was looking for. Of course the view from central London is always interesting.

Comment on blog linking quality and learning loops #mtw3 #mosocoop

There has been a comment on previous post with this diagram.

I can just about see that. Generalisition and management respibility is the one I find most difficult. I suppose it is theorising the general purpose? but presumably in Kolb it is theorising about the instrumental aspect of whatever the action is for as well.

John Burgoyne

So I'm encouraged to continue with this. Some of the words will be different and need to be explored. Turning the diagrams round may be confusing. But I will try to relate this to the Deming SIG project on a Model of Sustainable Organisation and the third conference on Management Theory at Work.

"Scientific Leadership" appears to be not the same words as "Management Responsibility" but if we understood the process a bit better they may turn out to be related.

examples such as Sidmouth Folk, Joss Stone soul sessions, any High Street and the Cozmic Meadow.

How to do a blog? Especially with topics that relate over various spaces, and the content often comes from long ago.

Previous post on theory and media, but here are some topics that may come up during August.

YouTube takes ages to find anything. That's what I experience anyway for clips I post. I have tried to load Marnie and the Fallen Apples ahead of Sidmouth but they still have very few views.

The Pyrates will not be in Sidmouth this year but I did record them recently at the Sorry Head in Exeter

I think there will be some R&B at Dukes. The Mama Stone house band for example. And the Sound of the Sirens.

Meanwhile I am getting nowhere on promoting the Diana Ross version of One Love in My Lifetime. Still think it could be a dance hit but I may be out of time by a decade or so.

If the weather is good the Wild Show may explore the Exeter canal etc. this week or next. the Cozmic Meadow is a track we played from Rafel Rodney. It could be in Exeter or anywhere, maybe the Lee Valley. The Cozmic Meadow in Sidmouth is on the Eastern side by the river, a scenic route to the Volunteer. There is plenty of space for a blowup Stonehenge.

Future Wild Show may discuss Any High Street continuing at RAMM. Is Exeter really like Weimar Berlin, Hogarth London? Or has there been some tinkering with the source material?

draft diagram for August drift #mosocoop #mtw3 #crossmedia12

Augdraft

August probably is a good time for moving outside of time and space. It seems to happen anyway. Most people are on holiday so there is more input from the archive and accidents.

In September there will be Cross Media Live. I think this could be a significant shift for print culture. For a start it is organised by the same people as IPEX. But also it seems to be covering digital ok.

I work with #mosocoop , a project to update Deming , and #mtw3 on management learning. Both could contribute theory and learn from technology. So far there are no dates or arrows.

On LinkedIn I am contributing to Cross Media Live discussions about newspapers/magazines shift to online, Adobe, and Google TV. Probably I will stick to these headings.

the doc is here, suggestions for arrows, dates txt etc welcome.

More detail from Guardian about the FT

the Financial Times, which barely competes with the Mail or the BBC in the attention stakes, now has 301,471 digital subscribers according to its parent company Pearson. That is more than the FT's headline printed circulation of 297,225 – which includes 30,000 freebies

So there are precise numbers but Dan Sabbagh apparently considers the FT a special case, not a model for other news organisations. Still, the dates when digital numbers compare with print are of interest in various situations.

About the Guardian itself there is not so much info, except that digital advertising revenue was £14.7m , up 26% on year to March. Sabbagh estimates the Times income from the iPad at £19m after Apple's cut. The implication seems to be that a future of global advertising could be a better bet. But ABC numbers about UK print are not the whole story.

Also in print there is an interview with NBV anchor Al Michaels. No mention of the Twitter  #nbcfail comments on broadcast delay and edits, but I don't know when this was written. The web page is different but for me the interesting comment is from Jeff Jarvis in Buzzmachine

By the way I still don't know the actual date that the Guardian formally stopped the arrangement for a regular Jeff Jarvis contribution in print. I noticed they became less frequent but I still can't get any direct info.

Comment on previous post from Facebook, learning and quality loops #mtw3 #mosocoop

James OReilly The product/service arrow was flipped around in your diagramme, so the process remains the same in the inner domain. The above is the ISO 9001:2000 diagramme including Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) processes interfaced to Customer requirements (input) and satisfaction (output)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaizen This group addresses the full ISO model.

Collage on diagram from Facebook virtual world quality #mosocoop #mtw3

I have had another look at a diagram I saw during the week. On Facebook there is some detailed discussion on virtual worlds, learning and quality. I can't really follow which group covers which aspect but I can see how it could connect with other groups on LinkedIn for example.

3D Immersive Learning Quality

Here is my revised collage and the diagram ( see previous posts ) I change the direction of the loop to fit better with what different people expect. #mosocoop is a Model of Sustainable Development based on Deming ideas. #mtw3 is a third conference on Management Theory at Work. Search on # for more. I will put some links back to this post.

The original diagram is about learning so I have pasted in the stages on quality where they seem to fit. Words could change but something like this could work as a way of connecting ideas.

"Scientific Leadership" could be a process based on measurement. It would be roughly where Management Responsibility is on this.

Guardian report on FT not very clear about print circulation trends

Today I bought a hard copy Guardian but I find I am turning to the web to get some extra info.

Page 30, mostly about Penguin, but then the FT.digital subscriptions up 31% in first half of year to more than 300,000. But no clarity on how many of these are outside the UK. "Across print and online, the FT said its total paid circulation stood at 599,000 up 2% on the year." Some Googling finds Press Gazette for May. FT uk nespaper sales 300,584 ; -17.12%  So UK print and global digital could be both about 300,000. One growing more than 20% , one declining more than 10%. The Guardian shows numbers for the Guardian combining digital and print that make not a lot of sense without detail.

Press Gazette for Guardian newspaper daily sale in May -  214,703 ; -18.34%

Interesting story about TV and mobile devices

http://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/179266/is-mobile-the-key-to-set-top-box-and-smart-tv-succ.html#reply

Exeter High Street is now more or less on speed with this sort of thing. See previous post about Google box in Sony Centre.

I am still at my desktop before about seven. Then I often just accept what the TV has to offer.

When I do search YouTube I miss a keyboard.
